Levitate Architects designed Bookcase Staircase as a clever hidden, space saving solution for access to a new loft extension. The client wanted to extend their living space into the loft above their top floor flat in a Victorian mansion block and ideally also wanted a new library. Rodrigues Associates assisted by enabling the weight of the stairs, including books, to transfer back to main structural walls. It hangs from the upper floor so not depending on the existing structure of the neighbouring flats below.
